Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam celebrates Clipper Race trophy win, video highlights

After 326 days at sea, the final race of the 2023-24 edition culminated in a dramatic showdown, with three potential winners vying for the top spot. Perseverance took an early and significant lead, but the unyielding spirit of Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam, led by Skipper Bob Beggs and AQP Cameron McCracken, saw them race from 8th to 5th place in the last 12 hours. Their grit and tenacity culminated in a one-point lead over Perseverance, securing them first place overall and the coveted Clipper Race trophy.

CELEBRATION DINNER

To honour this momentous occasion, we hosted a celebratory dinner for our Race Partners, and key supporters and representatives from around the world at the Queens Hotel. It was an evening of reflection, filled with brilliant entertainment and delectable food. Sir Robin Knox-Johnston announced the race winner, followed by a live phone call with the triumphant Skipper Bob Beggs. The evening was a unique and heartfelt tribute to the year-long adventure that brought us all together.

GRAND FINALE

The Solent and Gunwharf Quays were teeming with tens of thousands of enthusiastic supporters, eager to welcome the fleet back into Portsmouth. Race Crew then paraded through the site, led by the vibrant rhythms of Batala, a samba-reggae percussion band, making their way to the stage for the final prizegiving ceremony. The look of triumph and joy was etched on every face as the crew took to the stage, celebrating their remarkable achievements together for the last time. Finally, Bob Beggs and the crew of Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam lifted the Clipper Race trophy, bringing the 2023-24 edition to a close.
